I realize this is another calendar shot, but this is the one that gets used when I don't take anything else. Tomorrow is the last day of glorious September! Here's to embracing autumn some more!

Happy Birthday Dea!  May this next year be full of sunshine for you! :)  I was told by a dear friend to "embrace fall, because you live in the NW," so I bought a squash.  That's my embracing fall.  I cooked it tonight with an unidentified steak from the freezer, green beans, and fried potatoes.

This is what happens when doggies rip their way through screened kennel doors and poo all over the floor at night.  To get dear little Tosca comfortable with her new crate, I wiggled my way inside and tried to make it look like a comfortable and fun place to be.  That should have been the photo of the day.

Date of the day (this is what happens on a Sunday afternoon when the conversation goes, "What do you want to do?"  "I don't know. What do you want to do?"  "I don't know.  Let's just wander."  "Okay."):  Goodwill outlet (hilarious-- I wish I would have photographed some of those people), a walk in the park, and Five Guys Burger & Fries (for the first time).

The last day of summer as we know it... What a wonderful hike through tranquil Tryon State Park with my lovely friend and my dog.  Each turn in the leaf strewn trail revealed another chance to wonder at something: the diaphanous spider web floating between the oaks; the aged pine laying across the floundering stream with strong boughs growing straight up from the prostrate trunk; the thick dampness of the air, making it seem like a living organism.

I've been taking some time in the past few weeks for some deeper inner reflection.  It's good to sit back and look at yourself once in awhile and figure some things out.  What's most important?  What are your values?  What in the world do you want to do with your life?  Ah, too much to think about.  But it comes down to this in my own life: I've chosen to have faith in God and I want to live my life in a way that will honor that decision.  It's not that I'm always doing the right thing, but I want to.  A coworker gave me a copy of the book My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers, and it's really rocking my boat (in a good way). This is a selection from today's reading, my pondering point:

Just one hundred more days and it'll be the end of the year!  So today, my cat got mail. And they spelled her name incorrectly-- it's Nikki.  Bwahaha! What did the mail man think?!

My new favorite bedtime snack: gluten-free frozen pancakes from Trader Joe's.  Yes, I know, but when you're gluten-free, you're sometimes desperate.

This box full of styrofoam peanuts means that I have my baby back home!  *big sigh of relief*  It's time to start booking family portraits for your Christmas cards and senior photos!

Nikon says my camera should be back in my hands tomorrow!

Roasted Veggies
Preheat oven to 400.  Mix carrots, quartered small potatoes, chopped sweet potatoes, halved brussells sprouts, green beans, sliced red onions, chopped garlic cloves, cubed zucchini, and any other desired veggies in a roasting pan.  Stir with olive oil, fresh rosemary, ground pepper, and sea salt.  Bake covered with foil for 30 minutes, uncover and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes until veggies are lightly browned.

On this rainy day, I ventured into the midst of a rain forest covered in hairy moss drooping towards the ground, giant tree leaves dripping tears, and the stream laughing over the rocks.  The air is damp and warm, fragrant like an old fallen log. All of my senses are alert and succumb to the ethereal gloom.  The watercolor texture of today's photo echos the enchanting allure of Forest Park's hidden gems.

Closing down the shop at Insomnia Coffee Co. with Lynette! We went to see Contagion (I will now wash my hands more often) at the Roseway Theater (thank you, Groupon), but forgot to photograph the old fashioned theater.

It seems there can only be so much creativity with a cell phone camera.  The repair status on my good camera is "in shop."  Nice.  Tonight I learned a new song on my guitar and it's... shhhh... don't tell anyone... *quiet whisper* (a Lady Gaga song called "You and I").  Deep breath.

I found a new favorite Starbucks to chill in!  It feels so good to step aside from everyday life sometimes and go somewhere without normal distractions.

Hot dish time! What? Hot dish!
Dump 1 cup uncooked brown rice into casserole dish.  Add two cups water, one bag frozen veggies of choice (I used green beans); top with thawed boneless, skinless chicken breasts, one can tomato sauce, and sprinkle with Italian seasoning, freshly ground sea salt, and every day seasoning mix.  Bake at 425 for about an hour or so, checking on the rice to see if it's cooked. Viola!

So, um, the extra large photo makes it look gross.

One item from my 30X30 List (30 things to do before I'm 30) is having coffee at every locally owned coffee shop in Portland.  I've got to get on this one!  Today I visited a Stumptown Coffee Roasters on _______ Street.  Yeah, I don't remember what street it was on; I was distracted by my companion and the round about way we got to the coffee shop!

Decaf Americano.

I survived Warrior Dash 2011!  Had a blast this morning (the race seems to have gotten more fun in my head as the day has gone along and the pain is wearing off) with my old hommies from AGC!  I think I'm officially a viking warrior princess now.  I have the hat.

I went on a date tonight with Harry Potter! Finally the end!  We're over now-- him and I.  It was a long relationship, but we finally called it quits tonight. Finally.  So in celebration, I took some artistic liberty and played around with Photoshop and the movie theater.

After the perfect camping experience-- the first camping trip I've done alone-- Duncan and I lingered over the river, not wanting to head home.

After spending the night in Bellingham with some friends from Colorado, Duncan and I headed up to Mt. Baker, where we found an epic campsite right on the river!  What a glorious day full of sunshine, warmth, and mountain snow!  The photo is of Mt. Baker in the background.

I love road-tripping! This Labor Day weekend found Rebecca and Duncan in the good ol' Subaru heading up to Northern Washington!  We had some very good bonding time together, so he pretty much steals the show in photos for the weekend.  Interesting experience-- I pulled out my N90 (a film camera, for those of you who know what that is), so with the delay in getting film developed (worst experience at Walgreen's ever),
here's the weekend in photos:

Best date ever!  I took myself out to Hayden's Grill for music by Chris Casale and nacho fries.  I will sleep well tonight.

For my faithful followers, the news on the camera tune up is that it is still in California and not on it's way back home to me yet. :(  A photographer without a camera is like... a fish without fins, a musician without fingers, a dog without a tail, a bike with no wheels, a writer without a pen.  *sigh*  Please stay with me!  The next few days I'm heading on a camping trip with no internet service, so I will have to catch up posting on Monday or Tuesday!  Have a great and safe Labor Day weekend!

The first day a new month!  The death knell of Summer has been rung, but this weekend, she's going out with a bang! Wow-- 90 degrees.  Looks like I'm heading North, where it will be 20 degrees cooler than this:

It was my boss's birthday today, so in lieu of a cake (everyone on the office is on a diet), I made a fruit bouquet-- topped with star fruit as a treat!
